The job shadowing programme allows you to learn more about particular roles and themes within schools without the necessity of being responsible for a teaching timetable or leadership role. Depending on your interests you will be matched with someone performing a similar role or dealing with your themes of interest; you will then have the opportunity over the course of 1-2 weeks to observe how they go about their role, discuss with them and others how it works, and visit other institutions/ people in relation to the theme. For example, a SENCO might shadow someone performing a similar role in school, but might also visit referral units, teacher training institutions and advisers responsible for children with special needs.
Job shadowing gives participants access to different ways of thinking and doing things, as well as a chance to reflect on personal and institutional practice
